TORONTO, Canada -- A 13-year-old Trinidadian-Canadian hockey player and his family are calling for an apology from a Fort Frances, Ontario team over an alleged racist remark.

Hakim Mustapha of Winnipeg, claims a player on the team called him “…a brown piece of s…,” and used the n-word, CBC News reports indicate.

Hakim told his father about the alleged insult after the game, who asked for an apology from the Fort Frances team coach. But none has been forthcoming with the coach for the opposing team telling CBC News that no one admitted responsibility for the incident.

No one else claimed to have heard the abuse, including the referee. If a referee hears a racial slur on the ice, a player is immediately suspended for three games and is required to write a letter of apology, according to game rules.

The Fort Frances Minor Hockey Association has said it would investigate the claim but so far the team’s captain has volunteered to write an apology to Hakim.
