Cricket: West Indies Lose Test Series Against Pakistan

KARACHI, Pakistan -- The Brian Lara-led West Indies cricket squad were today trounced by Pakistan in the third and final test of the tri-series at the National Stadium.

The West Indies, resuming on an overnight total of 39 for two, were dismissed for 244 an hour into the final session to register a loss by 199 runs. The win handed Pakistan a 2-0 win of the series. The second test ended in a draw despite a phenomenal double century by Lara.

The loss came despite a slow but concentrated 69 by Shivnarine Chanderpaul and a knock of 49 by Lara. Chanderpaul was removed by leg-spinner Danish Kaneria while Lara was removed by Umar Gul.

The 22-year-old Gul who finished with two wickets for 89 runs while Shahid Nazir contributed two for 49 and Abdul Razzaq finished with two for 23.

The West Indies will now begin the first of five one day internationals, from December 5 at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. West Indies last toured Pakistan in 1997.
