KINGSTON, Jamaica -- Jamaican-born Shaggy, Barbadian entertainer Rupee and Trinidadian Faye-Ann Lyons last night began preaching the “The Game of Love and Unity” following the official launch of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 song.
“The official song has had the input of a number of Caribbean and CWC stakeholders and I think the event and the region will have a song of which they can be proud,” said ICC CWC 2007 Marketing Manager, Damon Leon. “We have been looking forward to launching the song to the world and embracing it as part of the spirit and identity of ICC Cricket World Cup 2007.”Rupee is the lead composer of the song while internationally acclaimed artiste Shaggy brings his inimitable, distinctive style to it. Lyons, who is rapidly establishing herself as a musical force to be reckoned with following her Trinidad and Tobago Road March winning song “Display,” ads her energetic and powerful voice to the tune, which states: “Play, in this beautiful game. Where the rules and aim remain the same. It's the game of love unity.”
It is estimated that more than 100,000 fans will attend the event that runs from March 13 to April 28, 2007. The first match of the tournament will take place on Tuesday March 13 at the newly renovated Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica between the West Indies and Pakistan in Group D.
Fifty-one matches will take place over 47 days in eight countries. Almost all of the countries are building new stadiums for the event.
