Sean Paul For American Music Awards Tonight

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Jamaican dancehall Grammy wining sensation, Sean Paul, will know in a matter of hours whether he is a 2006 American Music Award winner.

Paul, whose Trinity album and “We Be Burnin’” single has been well received by mainstream American music fans, is among the top nominees in the Favorite Male - Pop/Rock category at the AMA’s tonight. But he faces tough competition from Nick Lachey and Kanye West.

Fans can catch the awards live from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California beginning at 8 p.m. ET/PT tonight on ABC.

Mariah Carey, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Black Eyed Peas and Nickelback Lead with three nominations each. Twenty awards will be given out representing the best of Pop/Rock, Country, Soul/Rhythm & Blues, Rap/Hip Hop, Latin, Alternative, Adult Contemporary and Contemporary Inspirational music.

Presenters scheduled to appear include Nicole Richie, Tori Spelling, Ashlee Simpson, Paris Hilton, Gavin Rossdale, Nickelback, Katharine McPhee, Tommy Lee, Mario Lopez (Dancing with the Stars), Vanessa Williams (Ugly Betty), Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds, William Shatner (Boston Legal, Show Me the Money), Carmen Electra, Foo Fighter's Dave Grohl, Taylor Hicks, Clay Aiken, Grey's Anatomy stars Isaiah Washington and Justin Chambers, Taye Diggs (Day Break), Ryan Seacrest, Tony Hawk, Linkin Park, Chris Brown, Ice Cube, Chingy, Sean Paul, Tyrese, Frankie J, Brian McKnight, Hannah Montana's Billy Ray Cyrus and Miley Cyrus, Chamillionaire, JC Chasez, JoJo, Sarah Silverman, Weird Al Yankovic, Jesse McCartney, Cheetah Girls, Wendie Malick (Big Day), Kirk Franklin and cast members from High School Musical. The Awards will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and performers announced for the special thus far are Beyonce, Carrie Underwood, Dixie Chicks, Gwen Stefani, Josh Groban, Mary J. Blige, Nelly Furtado, Pussycat Dolls, Rascal Flatts, Snow Patrol and Tenacious D. Meanwhile, Paul is set to tour Africa early next month. He’s slated to perform at the Cidadela Pavillion in Luanda on December 8th and the Accra Int'l Conference Center in Ghana on the 9th.

He moves on to Dubai and Doha on the 15th and the 16th, respectively.
