KINGSTON, Jamaica-- Twenty-four million Jamaican dollars has been allocated to boost the security capabilities in three resort areas.

The Tourism Enhancement Fund will go towards the establishment of a mobile police station equipped with communication devices and the installation of closed circuit television cameras at 14 strategic locations along the Montego Bay 'Hip Strip', Ocho Rios and on Knutsford Boulevard in Kingston.

Tourism, Entertainment and Culture Minister, Aloun Ndombet Assamba, and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Security, Gilbert Scott, on Friday signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the initiative, which will be undertaken under the Resort Security Program.

The minister pointed out that the MOU highlighted the contribution of her ministry and the TEF "towards a partnership of police, government and the community, which is expected to reap benefits in reducing crime, reducing fear of crime and enhancing the quality of life in Jamaican communities." – Hardbeatnews.com
